Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt returns from injury and will start when the Netherlands play Austria in the second round of Euro 2020.

The Bianconeri defender has struggled with a groin injury in recent weeks, but has returned to training with the rest of the quad and is available on Thursday night.

Holland CT Frank de Boer confirmed De Ligt will play from the first minute against Austria in Group C.

“Tomorrow he will start,” De Boer said at a press conference on Wednesday. “He has taken part in everything. He’s ready!”

De Ligt, capped 27 times for the Oranje, participates in his first major tournament with the national team.

He was given his debut with the senior team at 17, when Danny Blind was the Netherlands CT and has since scored twice in the Holland shirt.
