Bayern Munich are now the favourites to sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt, reportedly agreeing personal terms, beating Chelsea and Manchester City.
The centre-back is pushing for a move away from Turin after three seasons, dissatisfied with their back-to-back fourth place Serie A finishes over the last couple of campaigns.
He has a release clause of circa €120m in his contract, which runs to June 2024, so the Bianconeri want close to that figure in order to release the player who turns 23 next month.
Chelsea had emerged as early favourites, but have since been superseded by Bayern Munich, who dived in over the last few days with their negotiations.
According to Calciomercato.com transfer pundit Daniele Longo, the Bundesliga champions have agreed basic personal terms with the Dutchman worth €10m per season net – €18m per season gross – plus bonuses.
The Juventus offer for a contract extension was lower than his current €8m per season net plus add-ons salary.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Bayern director – and former Juventus player – Hasan Salihamidzic will be in Turin today for face-to-face talks with both club and defender.
The same source suggests Manchester United are also in the running, albeit unlikely considering they are not in the Champions League.
Lawyer Rafaela Pimenta, who inherited the transfer agency from Mino Raiola, has reportedly told Juve that De Ligt would favour a move to Bayern Munich above Chelsea.
The problem is that their offer is only €70m plus add-ons, which is nowhere near enough for Juventus or to beat the Chelsea proposals.
Any destination to those mentioned clubs is a step up for the Dutch Phil Jones. Even if that means going to a rainy dump like Chipland so be it. The money is better but the women look like horses. He knows with a smaller club in terms of European prestige, he will not achieve any further goals. Throw PhD Max into the equation and all he can hope for is honing the art of the “Feng Shui” back, back, down, down.
Wait juventus offered him a salary lower than what he was getting for a new deal 😂. Do they prefer rugani then
I wonder what Bayern Munich knows about De Ligt to offer that huge salary when the guy it is nothing more than a promise. He is the definition of hit or miss player, and we cannot forget this guy has had masters at his side in the form of Bonucci and Chiellini, maybe not at their peaks but still big masters. For me the Dutch has not learned a lot from them which I consider a waste. This guy is so grossly overrated that it is not even funny. Bayern has a history of love of overrated CBs recently (Boateng and Hummels are two prime examples) so no surprise there… still I wonder why so much love for this guy when around Europe there are talent at his level for a lot less… mysteries of life
@putuco,
I have to disagree he is 23 and basically was forced to captain the defense after Chillini was not playing. Let’s face it Bonucci will never be at Chiellini’s level as a defender. He also has all the qualifications under his belt that most top clubs look for when scouting defenders: Played 3 years in Serie A, CL and Juve. It was actual playing time, not sitting on the bench, is 23 and was thrown immediately into the wolves den after Chiellini was out injured and when you look at all the chaos that’s been going on at Juve the past seasons has done pretty well all things considering. Hence you have this price tag for this defender.
Lets be honest, man city wre never in the race to sign him, if they wre then they would have paid and bought him and de ligt would never say no to them + £250,000 wage deal plus the bigger sponsoship money he will get
90m get it done and buy 2 players. He made some mistakes last year, great player but not worth over 70-80m. Maybe will thrive for Chelsea or Bayern but Juve need to get money for him now and need to just play hard ball. Bayern thinks they can go low bc that is where he wants to go..I would like to see 70m and Pulusic Juve just needs people that can attack and score, they will fill out the D
