Matthijs de Ligt was satisfied after Bayern Munich’s Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain and underlined his enduring love for Juventus.

The Dutch defender spent three years with the Bianconeri, joining for around €85m from Ajax in 2019 before leaving for Bayern last summer for €67m. Since his departure, De Ligt suggested that things didn’t go to plan for him in Turin and reportedly helped investigators in the Prisma investigation.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Bayern’s 1-0 win over PSG, De Ligt first reacted to the Round of 16 win.

“I am satisfied that we didn’t concede a goal, we were also lucky because they cancelled a PSG goal for offside.

“When you play so high with defenders against forwards like Mbappe, who are so fast, you need to have personality. We did very well today.”

The 23-year-old was asked if he’s grown since joining Bayern.

“I feel good both physically and tactically. This game suits me more.”

Finally, De Ligt discussed his relationship with Juventus after leaving the club last year.

“I always follow them, for me they’re a great club. Things have been said that aren’t true, I understand the fans, but I’ve never spoken ill of Juventus.

“I have a lot of love for the colours of Juventus and their fans, even in this difficult moment the fans always go to the stadium, and I hope Juventus will win many more games and that they can do well both in the league and in the Europa League.”

During his time in Turin, De Ligt scored eight goals and provided three assists across 117 appearances for Juventus, helping the side win a Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana. The initial hope was that the Dutchman would’ve been a long term option in the Bianconeri backline but he struggled to live up to his potential in Piedmont.
