Match winner Matthijs de Ligt said ‘the only thing that mattered was three points’ for Juventus against Spezia on Wednesday night.
The Bianconeri went down 2-1 in the start of the second half but bounced back with goals from Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt.
Moise Kean had opened the scoring with his first since the return to Italy, but Emmanuel Gyasi and Janis Antiste turned the game around for the Aquilotti.
De Ligt admitted it was a ‘difficult’ game against Thiago Motta’s men, but pointed at a determined squad after securing the first three-pointer in the League.
“The game was difficult,” De Ligt told DAZN. “We played a good first half, but they scored a great goal on the last chance and that’s always tough.
“Then they scored at the beginning of the second half, but our character was important to win. The only thing that mattered was the three points.”
And the Dutch centre-back hopes the win in Liguria can be the turning point for the Old Lady’s season.
“At Juventus we have to win all the games, now we must start a new championship with these three points,” he continued.
“Game after game, we will see how it will be. I’m happy with the points won today. We always play together, those on the pitch and those on the bench and it’s very important.
“Even those who entered in the second half did very well.”
The young defender responded to the critics by scoring the winner in an intense mid-week game.
“I always need to improve,” he added. “It’s normal to receive criticism. I have had a lot, for me it’s not that important.
“I just have to work to improve.”
