Chelsea are in talks with Juventus over Matthijs de Ligt, but while the Bianconeri are open to welcoming Timo Werner as part of the deal, they want more than the €40m offered by the Blues.
De Ligt has put new contract talks with Juventus on hold and has emerged as Chelsea’s priority to replace Antonio Rudiger, who has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.
De Ligt’s deal at the Allianz Stadium runs out in June 2024 and he has a €125m release clause included in his contract starting from this summer. It will rise to €140m in the final year of his contract in Turin.
According to the latest reports in Italy, Chelsea have offered €40m plus Timo Werner to sign the Dutch defender, but the cash offer is still not enough for the Bianconeri.
Sky Sport Italia and Calciomercato.com report that Juventus like Werner and are open to including him in the deal, although they expect a higher offer from Chelsea, at least in the region of €70m. Juventus would also sell De Ligt for circa €100m without including any other player in the deal.

If he doesn’t extend, then Juve must sell, because they’ll lose out on a fortune like Milan did with their Bosman’s leaving.
He has 2 years left, his contract expires in 2024.

PhD Max will be scouring through the catalogue. There are not many players he will like in return. They are all too young, but he will have an eye on Azpilicueta and Jorginho. One is over 30 and the other is slow. The giants of Turin were too slow. They should have known de Ligt was wavering. They could have offered Chelsea money and pushed harder for Rudiger as a bargaining chip. 4th spot is secure so no need to lose sleep.
