Matthijs de Ligt said goodbye to the Juventus fans this evening following his move to Bayern Munich, calling his time in Turin ‘an honour’.

The 23-year-old Dutchman left Ajax for Juventus in the summer of 2019 and went on to make 117 appearances in Turin, helping the side win a Scudetto, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana. De Ligt became a more complete defender as a result of his close work with veterans Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.

Posting a video of his time at Juventus, De Ligt thanked the Bianconeri fans and bid farewell following his move to Bayern.

“The time has come to close a very beautiful chapter in my career. Massive thanks to the entire Juventus family, club, coaches, players, staff and fans for the love you’ve shown to me. Was an honour to fight by your side and play for this team. Sarete sempre nel mio cuore [You’ll always be in my heart].”

Bayern signed De Ligt from Juventus in a deal worth around €67m plus €10m in add-ons. The Dutch defender signed a five-year contract with the Bavarian giants and he’ll be looking to immediately start ahead of the rapidly approaching Bundesliga season.

To replace the Dutch defender, Juventus are looking to pick up Gleison Bremer from Torino. They’ve already agreed the details of a transfer with the club and now need to agree personal terms with the 25-year-old.
