Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis was rescued by helicopter when his yacht caught fire.

The movie producer was on the boat anchored off the coast of Naples when the fire started this evening.

“Fortunately it all went well. I don’t know what happened, perhaps a short-circuit,” De Laurentiis told reporters.

“Were we frightened? Anyone in our position would have been.”

A helicopter rescue team was sent out to air-lift all 12 passengers away to safety.

The incident occurred just a couple of hours before Napoli’s Serie A match against Lazio at the Stadio San Paolo.

De Laurentiis had been due to attend the game. He only bought the yacht in March.

Former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro posted images of a boat on fire via his Instagram account, not realising it belonged to De Laurentiis.
