De Laurentiis: ‘Napoli are determined’

President Aurelio De Laurentiis says Napoli are “determined, and ever-more aware of our value”.

The Partenopei are two points off the top of Serie A under new Coach Maurizio Sarri, though the patron is not keen to contrast the tactician with previous incumbent Rafa Benitez.

“I wouldn’t like to draw comparisons, they’re unpleasant,” De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Everyone has their own path, Sarri is a great thinker, and knows how to set the players up on the pitch. This is a Napoli that is determined and ever-more aware of our value.”

De Laurentiis also called for Jorginho to be given an Italy call-up, insisting with the former Verona man and Mirko Valdifiori he has two registi [deep-lying playmakers].

“This Napoli has found a regista for the first time. I wanted one and in the end I found two. I read that some are trying to bring [Andrea] Pirlo back, that means there’s a lack of them.

“Jorginho for Italy? He’s a great lad, who deserves it. [Azzurri CT Antonio] Conte always used to prefer three midfielders and wider midfield, Jorginho could provide a vague representation of what Conte did in the past with Pirlo.”
