Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis denies Dries Mertens could join Inter and is ‘considering legal action’ against the player’s agent.

The Belgian’s representative said recently that links to the Nerazzurri were not simply idle speculation, and hinted a deal could take place.

However, in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, the Partenopei President has strongly denied any dealings with Inter, and is threatening legal action.

“None of this is true,” De Laurentiis fumed.

“We’re only dealing with pre-planned exits. There will be no departures in attack. We’re talking about exits for [Jonathan] De Guzman and [Camilo] Zuniga.

“I’m very annoyed by these rumours about Inter, and especially concerning Mertens. I’m consulting with my lawyers and considering possible legal action against the agent of the Belgian for spreading these absurd rumours.

“I spoke with Inter and their director general [Marco] Fassone and they denied they’d had direct contact with Mertens’ agent.

“I assure fans there will be no-one coming in or going out [with Inter].”

De Laurentiis also responded to Torino President Urbano Cairo, who suggested the Vesuviani’s €12m offer for Nikola Maksimovic was ‘inadequate’.

“The President is very nice to me, and I understand, but for me Maksimovic is a good player who is not worth more than €12m.

“Playing for Torino is one thing, it’s another to do it with Napoli.”
