De Laurentiis hints at Napoli’s ‘stolen’ Scudetto

Aurelio De Laurentiis says Napoli haven’t yet won the Scudetto under his ownership because ‘sometimes somebody steals what belongs to you.’

De Laurentiis spoke to Ottochannel ahead of tonight’s friendly match between the Azzurri and Benevento at the Stadio Maradona.

“Napoli reborn in 2004, after bankruptcy, we’ve played in Europe for 12 years in a row, perhaps there isn’t another Italian club that has done the same,” the Napoli president said.

“Of course, we should have won a Serie A title, but it is not enough to be a strong team to do so. You must avoid incidents and sometimes somebody steals what belongs to you.”

Napoli came close to winning the Scudetto in the 2017-18 campaign under Maurizio Sarri.

The Azzurri collected 91 points in 38 games, but somehow that was not enough to win the third Serie A title in their history as they finished four points behind champions Juventus.
