Charles De Ketelaere believes Atalanta can win the Coppa Italia this season, but above all warns his parent club Milan ‘need to be wary’ of them in the quarter-final.

The Belgium international scored twice in today’s 3-1 win over Sassuolo, also providing the assist for his teammate Aleksei Miranchuk.

That set up a quarter-final against his old club, which will probably be played at San Siro on January 10.

“We knew what we had to do and we did it with a good performance,” De Ketelaere told Mediaset.

“In fact, we could comfortably have scored more goals, but everything largely went well this evening.”

He looks a different player to his debut Italian season at Milan, where he was visibly lacking confidence, so hopes to prove a point against his former teammates.

De Ketelaere already said he relished their Serie A meeting last month and is certainly looking forward to this next clash too.

“It is always special facing Milan. They need to be wary against this Atalanta side, especially if we are playing like this.”

La Dea are through to the quarter-finals and are therefore looking ahead to some potential silverware.

“We will try to win the Coppa Italia, but first of all we must try to beat Milan, taking it one game at a time.”

So far this season, De Ketelaere has scored six goals and provided five assists in 21 games for Atalanta between Serie A, the Europa League and Coppa Italia.
