Charles De Ketelaere reflected on his first few weeks with Milan and the initial difficulties faced in Serie A.

The 21-year-old Belgian talent was the Rossoneri’s signing of the summer, arriving from Club Brugge in a deal worth around €35m total following a long set of negotiations. De Ketelaere is a talented and technical attacking midfielder, proving his qualities last season in Belgian.

Speaking to HLN, De Ketelaere discussed his start to life with Milan, some of the obstacles he’s faced and his plans for the coming years at the club.

“Football is made up of ups and downs. When I arrived at Milan there was a lot of positivity. After a few games there was a bit of negativity, but then positivity again. That’s how it goes in football.

“Of course, I prefer positivity to negativity. I do my best and try to give my best every day and become a better footballer. I try not to think too much about pressure, I just try to do my best.

“I know I still have a lot to learn, I know what I can do and I try to improve as much as I can. I want to help the team.”

Since his arrival, the 21-year-old De Ketelaere has made nine appearances across all competitions under Stefano Pioli, providing one assist in that time. Whilst he’s shown glimpses of his quality, the Belgian clearly needs a little time to settle in the Lombardy capital before he’s able to show his best.

During his time with Club Brugge, the Belgian talent scored 25 goals and provided 20 assists across 120 games.

  1. Let’s not forget he chose to come to Milan instead of the EPL. He should be given time to show your quality with minimal pressure. That’s how you get players like Leao, Kalulu and Tonali.

  2. Of course he needs time. Might be an idea to stick him on the right until he’s up to speed though. Performances at 10 have not been what you would expect from the big summer signing.
