Paolo De Ceglie has explained that he opted to join Genoa to ‘get back on track’ after falling by the wayside at Juventus.

The winger completed a loan switch to Marassi at the weekend and debuted from the bench in the Grifone’s 1-0 win over Inter.

The club’s new No 29 has today been presented to the media and has explained some of the reasons for his decision in leaving Juve.

“[Coach Gian Piero] Gasperini was important in my decision, I know him from my days as a youth,” began De Ceglie to reporters.

“My game is played out on the wing and is based on running – the Coach will decide where to play me within his technical set-up.

“Genoa is an important city, the fans are great and the stadium is very warm. I’m happy with my choice and I cannot wait to play my first derby.

“I know the importance of this challenge and I want to give joy to all the Rossoblu fans.

“There is no regret in leaving Juventus, I was playing little and Genoa is a deliberate choice so as to get back on track.

“Here there is a positive and united dressing room. Portanova welcomed me and has told me about the atmosphere between the players.

“An objective? To achieve League status calmly, but I am sure that we can also bring a lot of satisfaction.

“From my experience with Juventus, I harbour the desire to win and Genoa should always have this attitude.

“Of course the results won’t always be there, but the mindset must be that – take to the field to win.”
