The Zebrette face off against the Biscione tomorrow evening at 19:45 UK time. The 58-year old replaced Stefano Colantuono only last month as results were hardly satisfactory, but it seems the matter of relegation risk has been nearly archived.
“Playing three games in one week doesn't represent any particular difficulty, it's just a matter of recovering our mental and physical energy,” he told the Press. “It's an important game and we mustn't underestimate it because our target still hasn't been reached.
“Inter are a great team. We all have an interest in playing a great game, us and them. They'll try fielding their strength so they can finish strong in the championship. Each has their own objectives, so we'll both be after a win.”
De Canio was then asked about his experience so far at Udinese.
“I expected to do well and was confident we could save ourselves from relegation. When you take someone's place, that's because there often are critical aspects [about the team] and it isn't always easy to identify them.
“It takes a lot of help from the players too. The team was well trained and thanks to the availability of the players everything became easier. It's mainly thanks to the team.
“I knew we'd escape relegation, what with Udinese's philosophy and the quality of the squad. It was just a matter of resolving those critical aspects.
“As for the future, the names of many Coaches are being circulated, but that's something I'm used to. When I met the directors we didn't establish any precise agreement, they just told me that I'd be considered like any other Coach.
“I'm a possible option for next year, but in the meantime I just want to keep doing my job.”
