New Udinese Coach Luigi De Canio is “very happy” to have returned to the Friuli bench.

The tactician has returned to the Zebrette after Stefano Colantuono was sacked yesterday, and was officially presented to fans and media this afternoon.

“I’m very happy and very excited about this opportunity, because I hoped this return could happen,” De Canio told a Press conference.

“A few years ago I was interrupted in the course of an important speech, now I have the opportunity to resume.

“When you come in as a replacement it means there are difficulties, I’m sorry for the squad and for Colantuono, but these situations are part of football.

“I just want to use my experience to help Udinese. We want to find results which match with the technical value of this squad.

“Yesterday morning I got a call from Gino Pozzo and I gave my approval. From the outside you can get an idea of what’s going wrong. I’ve always followed Udinese, even when things were better here.

“I had beautiful moments here and I’ve always been interested in the Bianconeri. You can get an idea from the outside, but everything can change in practice.

“I need to speak to the team and watch the training sessions.”

De Canio was then asked about his relationship with the elder statesmen of the squad, in particular club icon Antonio Di Natale.

“I’m available to everyone and I think everyone will be helpful to our cause. I’m not shutting anyone out, I don’t think there are problems in that regard.

“There’s no need for me to approach anyone in particular, what counts is Udinese, not the individual players.

“Di Natale? He’s a great player, but I have to evaluate his physical and mental condition so he can make the contribution which we all think he’s capable of.

“When I’ve done that I’ll be able to give you a more precise answer. Everyone has to prove their desire, everyone has to prove they have the desire to help Udinese.”
