The former Ajax Coach is said to be dumbfounded over the “amateurish” Europa League defeats to Hapoel Beer-Sheva and Sparta Prague, which left them bottom of the group.

He openly blamed the attitude and mentality of the players for this vast difference between Serie A and continental form.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, De Boer’s team talk yesterday absolutely blasted the squad, including the phrase: “If I go down, you all go down with me.”

He pointed out that predecessor Roberto Mancini had already gone, so the team had no more alibis for their failure to come together.

Club chiefs were also at the training ground on Friday and reportedly told De Boer to scrap the squad rotation for the next Europa League test with Southampton.

He can only do so much, as players like Joao Mario, Gabigol, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Stevan Jovetic were left off the UEFA list due to Financial Fair Play considerations.

The pressure is already piling on in Serie A too with tomorrow night’s showdown at Roma.
