Gianni De Biasi has decided to draw a close to his time as head coach of the Azerbaijan national team, ending a three-year spell in charge.

The veteran coach, who has previously managed Torino and Brescia, took over as the Azerbaijan coach in July 2020. This was his second time stepping into the international space, having managed Albania from December 2011 to June 2017.

Italian coaches have continued to shine in international football and five are expected to take to the dugouts in Euro 2024 – Luciano Spalletti with Italy, Domenico Tedesco with Belgium, Marco Rossi with Hungary, Vincenzo Montella with Turkey and Francesco Calzona with Slovakia.

As reported by TMW, De Biasi has decided to resign as head coach of the Azerbaijan national team, looking for a new adventure after three years and four months in the role. He was set to leave at the end of the month regardless, when his contract expires.

The 67-year-old coach oversaw 39 matches in charge of Azerbaijan, picking up 10 wins, eight draws and 21 losses. Highlights include a recent 3-0 win over Sweden, a 3-1 win over North Macedonia and a 2-1 victory against Slovakia.
