France Coach Didier Deschamps says Geoffrey Kondogbia must get through his “adjustment period” with Inter.
The midfielder joined the Nerazzurri in a big-money move from Monaco this summer, but was not called-up by Les Bleus for the matches against Armenia and Denmark.
“Geoffrey has been with us [in the past],” Deschamps explained at the Press conference to announce his squad.
“He’s changed country and culture. I have choices to make, there’s competition in his position. I know him, he has potential. It wasn’t easy for him at Monaco at first, not at Sevilla either.
“There’s an adjustment period, because it’s never easy in Italy. He has time to play, he’ll get better, and we’ll follow him.”
Roma left-back Lucas Digne was also thought to be in contention for a place in the squad, but was omitted in favour of Juventus’ Patrice Evra and Benoit Tremoulinas of Sevilla.
“[The squad] will be fixed in May. Nothing is fixed. The door is always open, but when one comes in, it means another must go out.
“If the players I call-up do well for me, then I won’t change them. Lucas is doing much better, he’s playing, he’s finding confidence.
“I’ve seen their [Roma’s] matches, it’s not the Lucas we saw in the last few months at PSG, he’s rediscovering his competitive edge.
“I found the relationship between Evra and Tremoulinas to be very interesting against Serbia, so I opted to maintain that.
“With what he’s doing in Rome, Lucas is putting himself in contention.”
Finally, the former Juventus midfielder gave his thoughts on Kingsley Coman, the young Frenchman who has been loaned to Bayern Munich by the Bianconeri.
“He’s very interesting, and we’re following him,” Deschamps revealed.
“He’s had playing time at Bayern, thanks to [Arjen] Robben and [Franck] Ribery’s injuries, and it’s made things interesting.
“At his age, he has great potential, but he still has steps he needs to take.”
