Former Chelsea defender David Luiz could reunite with Maurizio Sarri at Lazio this season, as the free agent is also considering Benfica and Flamengo.

The transfer deadline has now passed in Italy, but clubs can still sign players who are out of contract.

According to Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, David Luiz is eager to remain in Europe, so will hesitate before accepting the proposal from Flamengo.

He is also wanted in Turkey, and by Benfica, but an intriguing option is provided by Lazio and it’s reported there has been some contact.

Sarri already worked with the Brazilian centre-back at Stamford Bridge and appreciates his international experience, something currently lacking in the Lazio defence.

David Luiz just turned 34 in April and was released from Arsenal when his contract expired on June 30.

He has 57 senior caps for Brazil, scoring three goals, and has also played for club sides Vitoria, Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain during his career.

  1. Let it happen… I miss watching this lunatic play. Think ideally he needs to be in a back three though.

  2. The thing is we will have suspensions and (hopefully not many) injuries + packed schedule so we need some1 preferably with experience . Given the options available he would be great.

  3. @FERBAN That seems to be the M.O. lately, Serie A loses its up and comers to England while they in turn send their washouts to Italy (hoping Tammy Abraham breaks that cycle).
