Il Corriere dello Sport reports Lille forward Jonathan David would be the ‘ideal’ striker to replace Romelu Lukaku at Roma, but he costs at least €50m, while Daniele De Rossi dreams of Federico Chiesa.

Roma did not qualify for the 2024-25 Champions League and will be looking to strengthen the team next season.

The Giallorossi finished the last three Serie A campaigns with 63 points and De Rossi said they have “many things” to improve to become more competitive in the near future.

Roma’s priority will be to sign a new centre forward to replace Lukaku who will return to Chelsea after a one-year loan spell.

David, Chiesa, Frattesi: Roma’s dreams and targets in 2024 summer transfer window

Lille and Canada striker David would be an ideal option, but he costs at least €50m, and Roma can only afford him by selling some of their players. However, De Rossi still dreams of signing Juventus star Chiesa and with such a big reinforcement on the wings, Dybala would play as a false nine in 2024-25.

According to the report, De Rossi has already called Chiesa to sound out his availability. The Italian star’s contract in Turin expires in 2025.

DDR will also be looking for a new central midfielder. The coach praised Inter‘s Davide Frattesi, a product of Roma academy, in one of his latest press conferences, but the Italy international is happy at San Siro and is not planning to leave unless new owners decide otherwise.

Nevertheless, the Giallorossi will be looking for a central midfielder with the same characteristics: Dynamic, aggressive and prolific.

As for defenders, Corriere dello Sport claims that the €5m clause to sign Angelino permanently expires tomorrow. Leonardo Spinazzola and Rui Patricio have not been contacted to extend their expiring contracts, while Sassuolo‘s Josh Doig and Lille’s Bafodé Diakité (Lille) are possible reinforcements for the left-back and right-back positions, respectively.

  1. “many things” to improve. No matter how many times of reinforcement, how much money to spend (if they have any left), Roma will always be the Italian version of Spurs. Lack of trophies but always think of themselves as one of the league giants.
