Roberto D’Aversa insists Sampdoria also have ‘regrets’ about the 2-2 draw with Inter, as they came closer to winning it.

The Blucerchiati were twice trailing at Marassi, but fought back to pick up a stalemate with Tommaso Augello and Maya Yoshida.

They could also have won it late on, Danilo D’Ambrosio denying Mikkel Damsgaard with a goal-line clearance.

“There are regrets, because we were behind twice despite playing well from the start,” said the coach in his press conference.

“The lads did well to bring home a positive result, because against such strong opponents, it’s never easy to get back on track and maintain your defensive balance too.”

Inter had taken the lead initially through a Federico Dimarco free kick, although there seemed to be little in Omar Colley’s challenge on Lautaro Martinez.

“Let’s just say that was a generous interpretation of a foul from the referee. After that, Dimarco scored an excellent free kick.”

This was Sampdoria’s first match with new signing Francesco Caputo, a more traditional two-striker format with Fabio Quagliarella than they were perhaps accustomed to.

“Caputo is an important player and we kept a good balance, but were caught out if anything by some naivete in midfield, so I hope this teaches us a valuable lesson.

“Over the games against Inter and Milan, I’d say our performances were more than decent and we regret not picking up more points. It is better to have regrets over a result than a performance.”

  1. Yeah the match second was just a really long cooling break filled with Inter injuries which resulted in playing with 10 men. He should be happy with a point and focus on his next opponent because not everyday will be christmas.
