Roberto D’Aversa had been waiting for Parma to “get a win against one of the big clubs” and it arrived when defeating Roma 2-0.

The Ducali secured victory over third-placed Roma thanks to goals from Mattia Sprocati and Andreas Cornelius in the second half.

“I believe in this squad, despite all the difficulties we are having, and they had already shown their maturity well before this test,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“What we were perhaps missing this season was a win against one of the big clubs and that is what we got this evening. The lads did so well in interpreting the match and taking the right approach, which wasn’t easy against a side like Roma.

“We made sure Roma never got near our goal and their only real chances were shots from distance, for example the Aleksandar Kolarov free kick.

“The lads fully deserved their victory in a game that was anything but simple. I think we’re achieving something more than extraordinary.”
