Parma coach Roberto D’Aversa was furious after the 2-1 defeat to Inter. ‘I don’t know what game Cristian Stellini saw, but we absolutely dominated.’
Gervinho had given the Ducali an early lead and they wasted numerous opportunities to extend, including a potential penalty on Dejan Kulusevski.
The Nerazzurri won it with two headers in the final minutes and their assistant manager Stellini, standing in for suspended Antonio Conte, said it was a thoroughly deserved victory.
D’Aversa heard this just before coming to the microphone and was visibly angry.
“I think Stellini saw a completely different match to the one I did. OK, Inter won, they can say what they like, but if we tally up the scoring opportunities and general approach, we did more than them,” D’Aversa told Sky Sport Italia.
“These were not just counter-attacks. I feel perhaps regret that I taught my players too well about sporting behaviour, that we were too naïve and have dropped points because of that.
“Kulusevski did not go down when he could’ve seen a player get a second yellow card, Andreas Cornelius is one of the fairest players in Europe and on the Juraj Kucka red card, we barely had time to make the substitutions when Inter scored the second goal.
“We knew their forwards would try to work between the lines, so Kulusevski or Kucka had to take it in turns to track their wide men. I think we did well, as we had three chances for Kulusevski, the VAR was not checked when he was tripped, so there were numerous situations.
“We conceded one goal on a corner, while the second was an error because we defend zonally on crosses and someone followed the man instead.
“I think we absolutely dominated the match and threw it away, so will feel a lot of regret tomorrow. Maybe I saw a different game to Stellini.”
