Parma Coach Roberto D’Aversa explained their tactical approach and felt their “determination” deserved victory over Inter.
The Ducali were under the cosh for long periods, but beat Inter at San Siro for the first time since May 1999 thanks to a Federico Dimarco stunner.
“It might seem unthinkable to come here against a great side like Inter and take away three points, but I applaud the lads who deserve it for all their hard work so far this season and the determination they showed,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“Some of our players were making their debuts in Serie A, so it was important to have the experience from the likes of Bruno Alves and Gervinho.
“We ended up working with two groups in training, as there were such different levels of fitness, but we were brave and I think fortune favours the brave.
“I am happy for Dimarco, who also had a very strong performance midweek for the Italy Under-21 side against Albania.
“Against players like Ivan Perisic who want to spread the play, we prefer to block them and focus the opposition towards the centre. It also allows us to have three forwards ready to combine when they go on the counter-attack.
“We had several dangerous counters in the first half and could’ve done better with the finishing. We had to allow Inter something in terms of possession, but that was part of the plan.
“In the game against SPAL, we couldn’t use Gervinho and I feel he is a very important player who made a big difference both against Juventus and Inter.
“When he turns on the pace, he can be devastating. His physical condition wasn’t great when he arrived, but he is improving considerably and gives the team the feeling that they can snatch a goal at any time.
“So far we’ve done very well against Juve and Inter, but it’s my job to ensure Parma have the same motivation and intensity against smaller clubs who are on our level, as those are the points we need for safety.”
