“The performance against Milan was not exciting, but it’s clear that it wasn’t as bad as what I’ve read. We deserved a draw, and we were naïve in front of goal," said the coach in his press conference.
“Having said that, Thursday’s game against Frosinone in the Coppa Italia gave me some important answers, but I had little doubt because of seeing the training the lads had done during the week.”
D’Aversa was asked about Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella, who scored two goals in the 4-3 defeat to Cagliari last Monday, but he warns there’s more to Samp than just the 36-year-old.
“Last year Quagliarella was Capocannoniere. He’s recharged himself mentally. We cannot think of having a simple game against Quagliarella, Manolo Gabbiadini or Gaston Ramirez. It is a game against a direct opponent and it must be faced in the right way.
“We have brought home results only when we are good in building play and when we are determined not to make wrong choices on the ball. If we want to leave with a result against Sampdoria, we can’t just think of playing a defensive game. Absolutely no chance.
“To get a result, we have to be good on the ball.”
