The Ducali closed 2019 with a home draw against Brescia and D’Aversa hopes that Gervinho, who was replaced in the 55th minute due to an injury, isn’t badly hurt.

“I hope it isn’t serious. Unfortunately problems arise in departments that are already depleted," said the coach in his press conference.

“The winter break arrives at the right time to recover the injured and the condition of the players who are just coming back."

D'Aversa has complained about having no fit strikers at the moment, and this he believes played a part in Parma’s performance.

“Brescia brought on Mario Balotelli. We have no attackers. What was missing in the second half is the reference point at the top of the pitch, especially when playing against sides lower in the table.

“I have to thank Antonino Barilla because he is playing through the pain.”

Parma finish the year in seventh position in Serie A, but D’Aversa would just like his current players to stay fit as a Christmas present.

“The team has grown in terms of both mentality and quality. However we must not be satisfied. We have to recover our injured players and perhaps if the injuries are prolonged, then think about going into the market.

“We cannot make the same mistakes as last season, when we beat Udinese at the beginning of the second round of the season and we all believed our objectives had been achieved.”
