Roberto D’Aversa is increasingly expected to become the new Sampdoria coach after they failed to agree terms with Marco Giampaolo.

It would’ve been a return to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for Giampaolo, who did well there from 2016-19.

However, after short-lived experiences at Milan and Torino resulted in his dismissal, Giampaolo could not work out a deal for another go on the Samp bench.

Instead, Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia, the Gazzetta dello Sport and more are all confident that D’Aversa will be given the job to replace Claudio Ranieri.

D’Aversa turns 46 next month and is just coming off two different spells at Parma, as he was fired in August 2020 and came back in January 2021.

He failed to prevent their relegation, finishing rock bottom of the Serie A table.
