Football Italia has lost a member of its founding family following the death of Dave Taylor. Dave passed away this weekend after a long fight with cancer and will be sorely missed by Italia staff and readers.
Returning to live in Middlesbrough after a spell in Naples, where he fell in love first with Diego Maradona and then Italian football, he began writing for Football Italia magazine in the early 1990s and then this website. Passionate, opinionated and quirky, Dave was our man to go to if we wanted to engage and challenge the reader.

A real one-off in the world of bland, many will best know Dave on this site for his knowledgeable Serie A Team of the Week selections and for his blogs generally centred around his passion for Napoli. His writing style reflected his warm nature, and was borne from a unique authenticity and wit that we will sorely miss.
We extend our sympathies to wife Perla, daughter Chantal and all of Dave’s family and pay tribute to his years of dedication with writing that was always infused with his enthusiasm and love for all things Italian football.
