Inter are said to be interested in Parma’s Matteo Darmian if Diego Godin is to leave the club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Godin only signed for the Nerazzurri last summer, but there are reports that the Uruguayan is keen to return to Spain, where he played for 12 years with Villarreal and then Atletico Madrid.

The defender’s entourage has been quick to deny reports of a departure, but Inter’s general manager Beppe Marotta is believed to be preparing for a potential exit regardless.

La Gazzetta claim the priority replacement for Godin would be Darmian, who only returned to Italy with Parma in August after four years in England with Manchester United.

The Italian can play as a right-back or on the right side of a back three, versatility that is appreciated by coach Antonio Conte.

Inter have also been linked to Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso, but Darmian would take precedence if Godin was to leave in January.
