Former Torino's Matteo Darmian discusses his experience at Manchester United, praising Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.

The full-back is largely considered to be one of the best Italians at the moment, and is among the few consistent Azzurri players to work outside of Serie A.

“Rooney has an extraordinary strength,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He never gives up. He loses the ball and goes back to reclaim it.

“Martial seems like he is predestined, born to be a champion. He's 19 years old, but he seems solid. It's fundamental to have a good head to withstand pressure.

“United are the top, like Real Madrid and Barcelona. The strength of English clubs lies in their organisation.

“But I found an environment where professionalism goes hand in hand with human depth.

“The changing room placed me in the best conditions to find my feet.

“[Coach Louis] Van Gaal? He's tough. He demands a lot in training. He's extremely careful about details.”

The 25-year-old also had the time to discuss Torino, who are doing extremely well in Serie A at the moment under Coach Giampiero Ventura.

“Maestro is the right word for Ventura. He's one of those Coaches of whom you always say that you can see their hand in the team.

“The secret of Torino is their ability to renovate without demolishing. They have transfer campaigns, but arrivals and departures don't upset the balance.

“There's always a nucleus of historic players, and the reconstruction is built around them.”
