Matteo Darmian is confident Italy “won’t just make a cameo at Euro 2016” and welcomes Antonio Conte to Chelsea.

The Manchester United full-back played 90 minutes in today’s 1-1 friendly draw with Spain.

“We knew that Spain had great champions and Alvaro Morata is one of them, but today we limited a great opponent and put in a fine performance,” Darmian told Rai Sport.

“We knew that Spain had great champions and Alvaro Morata is one of them, but today we limited a great opponent and put in a fine performance,” Darmian told Rai Sport.

“It’s a shame we didn’t get the win, but the performance and spirit shown tonight gives us more confidence working towards Euro 2016.

“We don’t have much time to work, but in training we try to absorb what the Coach asks of us as well as possible. We have a few more days to work and will certainly be ready for Euro 2016.

“We will not just be making a cameo at Euro 2016.”

Conte has already announced he will be leaving the Azzurri job after the tournament this summer and he’s expected to join Chelsea.

How does Darmian think the Italy boss will do in the Premier League?

“I think Conte will do well in England. He has already proved that he is a great Coach and will have no problem adapting to English football.”

Another rather large clue was found tonight, as Chelsea team manager Gary Staker was in the stands for Italy-Spain and spotted speaking to Conte’s agent.
