Chievo Coach Lorenzo D’Anna confirms they are in advanced negotiations to sign Emanuele Giaccherini on a permanent basis from Napoli.
The 33-year-old winger arrived on loan in the January transfer window and helped secure their Serie A safety with three goals and three assists in 13 Serie A appearances.
“Giaccherini had a strong impact, even if he is accustomed to far more prestigious clubs than Chievo,” D’Anna told Tuttosport.
“We need to talk to Napoli, but as far as I can tell, the negotiations are at an advanced stage. I’d be very happy to still have Giaccherini in the squad next year, as he understood what playing for Chievo means.”
D’Anna was promoted from the Primavera youth team job for the final three games of the season and won all three after replacing sacked Rolando Maran.
It proved enough to earn the former player a shot at the Bentegodi bench on more than an interim basis.
“You might not believe it, but I would’ve been happy whatever the President said after those games. I had put myself at the service of the club and was concentrated only on securing safety.
“What I really liked about my three games in charge was the battling spirit of my days at Chievo.”
