Juventus full-back Danilo said Andrea Pirlo's idea of football is 'similar' to his former coach Pep Guardiola's. ‘He gives me a lot of freedom’.

The suspended Old Lady defender will not be able to face his former club FC Porto in the return leg of the last 16 in the Champions League tonight.

But he spoke about his impressive form in a in-depth interview with Marca ahead of the important game and said the ‘continuity’ has helped him perform.

“We are seeing the best Danilo in recent years,” he told Marca. “Before, I lacked continuity. I needed matches to do my best and this season I found them.

“I’m happy with the level I’m playing at and for having been able to help the team more.”

He has played in various roles under coach Pirlo this term and said he feels he adapts well to the different tasks.

“I have no difficulty in changing because my way of seeing football has always been like that,” Danilo continued. “I like to analyse the movements, the spaces…

“I can’t play as a centre-forward, but I have no problem playing in the middle or at the back. The most important thing is to play.”

He revealed Pirlo and Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola shares a ‘similar idea’ and said the Juventus coach gives him ‘a lot of freedom’.

“I really like to participate in the construction of the game and Pirlo gives me a lot of freedom to help out,” he added. “He wants the ball to come out clean, so that whoever up front can make our opponents life complicated.

“He wants me to move and touch the ball a lot.

“His idea seems quite similar to Guardiola’s. Pep and his coach staff have an idea of football very similar to Pirlo’s.

“They think about football from the occupation of the spaces, they analyse how to anticipate the opponent’s movements…

“It’s a football that I like and that’s why I think it’s going well for me."
