Danilo hits back angrily at those who suggest Juventus have a ‘psychological’ issue with big games after their 5-1 defeat to Napoli. ‘We were not phenomenal before, we’re not useless now.’
The Bianconeri had come into this game as the form team in Serie A with eight consecutive victories, all without conceding a single goal.
They had let in only seven all season in the league before this humiliating 5-1 thrashing at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
“We were not phenomenal before this evening, we are not useless now,” assured Danilo to DAZN.
“It is important that we know our true value and what we are as a team. What people say outside the locker room shouldn’t affect us.”
When the Brazilian was asked if this was a psychological problem for Juventus in the big games, having also lost 2-0 to Milan, he hit back.
“I don’t want to hear any more about it, we proved that’s not an issue. We just made a lot of mistakes tonight and from tomorrow we must analyse it all on a football level.”
Max Allegri said afterwards that Juventus didn’t have as much ‘energy’ as Napoli on the night.
“Their legs were moving faster than ours, that is true. Napoli are a very strong side when they have room to run at you and we should’ve been more intelligent in dealing with those situations,” agrees Danilo.
Juventus fall 10 points adrift of the leaders and could be caught tomorrow in third place by Inter.
“We cannot afford to think about the Scudetto, as that won’t be decided until June. Juve must always target the Scudetto, but right now we must focus on the current moment and get back on track.”
