Daniel Maldini followed in the footsteps of his father, Milan legend Paolo, by scoring a Serie A goal against Inter. ‘I didn’t know that!’

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder naturally came through the Rossoneri youth academy, as the son of Paolo and grandson of Cesare Maldini, and is currently on loan at Spezia.

Daniel came off the bench against Inter this evening and opened the scoring in the shock 2-1 victory, the first time Spezia have ever beaten Inter after eight defeats and a draw in all competition.

“I had been waiting a while for a moment like this,” he told DAZN.

“Fortunately, it arrived today against a strong team and we will enjoy it.”

Daniel’s father, Paolo, had also scored a Serie A goal against Inter in November 1994 during the Milan Derby – before Daniel was even born.

“I didn’t know that! It doesn’t change anything, the important thing was to get the points.”
