Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard said he’s ‘very proud’ to hear about the fans affection and said he intends to stay with the Blucerchiati.

Damsgaard continued to impress against Atalanta last time and has carved out a space in coach Claudio Ranieri's team.

But the 20-year-old was coy when Il Secolo XIX told him the fans in Liguria have fallen in love with the Denmark international.

“I don’t read phrases like that going around, but if that’s the case, I’m very proud,” Damsgaard replied.

“Having only scored two goals, I don’t think I’ve done so much to deserve it.”

Damsgaard arrived from Nordsjaelland last summer and signed a contract until June 2024.

And the winger confirmed he intends to stay at the club, despite reports of interest from Juventus and Inter.

“Sure,” he said. “Why not?

“Then, of course, you never know and in football everything depends on performance, for good and for bad.”
