“In Europe they’ve always been in the latter stages of competitions. There’s so much work to be done, but the Coach [Roberto Mancini] is helping us.

“Next year we want to improve, and the Coach thinks we can fight for first place in the League.

“Juve are an example of a team which finished seventh and went on to win the Scudetto.”

The Brazilian then discussed this term, revealing regrets over their Europa League campaign.

“The biggest disappointment was our elimination from the Europa League. When you’re beaten by a better team you can accept that, but against Wolfsburg it was more about our mistakes.

“The problem is that when you make mistakes in Europe you don’t get the opportunity to fix them.

“In the League there’s more time, and we’re still in the race for qualification.”
