Danilo D’Ambrosio has penned a long and emotional farewell message to the Inter supporters following news that he will be leaving after a nine-year spell with the club he has supported since childhood.
D’Ambrosio, who originally joined Inter in a player-plus-cash deal in January 2014, went on to make 285 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri, was part of the 2020-21 Scudetto-winning squad and also won two Coppa Italia titles during his time at San Siro.
On Thursday, the 34-year-old defender shared his thoughts with the Inter supporters on Instagram, writing: “I would have wanted to end my career with the team I’ve been supporting forever, but this wasn’t possible, a shame!”
He continued: “Inter, to me, means family. Family, like the one my wife and I chose and wanted to raise right here, in the place where we grew up. Loving this shirt and experiencing the joys and pains while wearing it.
“Family, like the one made up of all the Inter team with whom we work day after day to put the club where it deserves to be and I am sure that they will continue in this direction!
“It has been a journey of love, passion, dedication, courage and humility. Always and only for the benefit of Inter. A very emotional journey for me and my family and I am sure it will be a part of our lives that we will carry in our hearts forevermore!
“Thanks to those who have always supported and appreciated me, to those who changed their minds and to those who didn’t, because you all contributed to my professional growth and made me a more balanced man!
“Big hugs to you, Danilo.”
