Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic expects the EURO 2024 group to go down to the wire, as their final showdown with Italy on June 24 ‘could be decisive.’

The Azzurri have been placed in the same group as Croatia, Spain and Albania in today’s draw in Hamburg.

“It is surely the most difficult group in the tournament,” Dalic told reporters at the event.

“We know what our goal is: to pass the group stage, and I am optimistic. We are up against an Italy side who won last time, Spain won the Nations League, so perhaps the last game could be decisive.”

Italy open against Albania on June 15, then face Spain on June 20 before the clash with Croatia on June 24 in Leipzig.

“Italy are playing very well now, they are the reigning Champions of Europe and will want to repeat that. We still have six months to get prepared, the most important thing will be having players like Lukka Modric, Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic in good shape.”

Croatia are historically known for creative and attacking football, but conceded only four goals in qualifying for EURO 2024.
