Lega Serie A President Paolo Dal Pino warns they are ‘still a long way off the objective’ of getting fans into the stadium without restrictions.

The Government agreed to allow 50 per cent capacity for open-air stadiums, 25 per cent for closed arenas, but only those with a Green Pass can access.

That is the EU-recognised electronic certificate confirming vaccination, recent recovery from COVID or a negative test taken within 48 hours of the event.

“We are still a long way off the objective of having stadiums open without limitations for those in possession of the Green Pass,” said Dal Pino.

“The dialogue with the Technical Scientific Committee and the Government is constant, because we consider the existing limitations too damaging for our sport, which is played in the open air and with fans who are checked before entry.

“We see incongruity compared to other situations, so seeing as the Green Pass represents the all-clear, we will continue to ask for it to mean entry with no restrictions.”

The undersecretary for sport Valentina Vezzali had requested 75 per cent capacity for open-air stadiums and 50 per cent for closed arenas.

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina also stated today that the social distancing limitations were too penalising for the Serie A clubs, who had already suffered so much with over a year of the pandemic removing all ticket revenue.

Even under the new rules, clubs have not started selling season tickets, because there are too many uncertainties over who will be able to access.

The capacity will also change if the region is upgraded to a different level of epidemiological risk.
