Patrick Cutrone has arrived to complete his loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Empoli. ‘I am so happy to be back in Italy.’

The Milan youth product was sold to Wolves for €18m in the summer of 2019, but never really settled in England.

He had loans at Fiorentina and Valencia, but the 23-year-old flew in to Pisa airport this evening from Birmingham to join Empoli.

“I am so happy to be back in Italy,” Cutrone told Sky Sport Italia reporters.

“I chose Empoli because it’s a great club and a great place to play football. I tell the fans that I am really fired up: I can’t wait to get to know you all, get on the pitch and tear things up.”

This is believed to be a dry loan, so without an option to buy at the end of the season.

Empoli won the Serie B title last term and in doing so achieved promotion to Serie A.

They are a neighbouring club to Cutrone’s last Italian side, Fiorentina, so he is not straying far from Tuscan soil.

  1. You legend. I would be delighted if he had a massive season and proved all those clubs and managers who underused him wrong.

  2. Not surprising really. If you have never been to Wolverhampton (and the surrounding area) trust me – Toscana is nicer.

  3. Cutrone I really liked but proven to be a quitter could have done really well but could not be bothered to return the love of Wolves fans, who took him into hearts

  4. Toscana is actually very similar to Wolverhampton. I remember going there once and thinking I’d accidentally gone back to the Black Country.
