Juventus risk losing Juan Cuadrado after trying to renegotiate his contract with a massive pay cut.

The 34-year-old’s deal was automatically renewed after he played his 40th match of the season, and with it the same salary worth circa €5m per season.

That is considered far too much now by Juve for the veteran, who are reportedly trying to negotiate it down by a long way.

Sport Mediaset claim the proposal was to make it a two-year deal, or one year with option for a second, at €3m per season instead.

Cuadrado turned that down and is now therefore considered on the market should a suitable offer come in.

The Colombia international is a fan favourite and beloved by coaches too for his versatility, able to play as a right-back, a right-sided midfielder or in a trident attack.

He contributed five goals and seven assists in 45 competitive games for Juve this season.

11 thought on “Cuadrado concerns after Juventus demand pay cut”
  1. Juve need to get their books in order after wasteful financial losses thanks to miss mismanagement

  2. 3m for him is a reasonable offer, problem is they signed a 5m renovation and want to renegotiate that. Bad management at its finest

  3. The automatic contract extension for the same money is all down to Paratici. The new management is trying to lower costs and get rid of players that aren’t worth their salary or at least keep them for fewer.

Cuadrado may have contributed a lot but that’s partly because Juventus only attack from the right side. They’ve turned Juan into a playmaker because both their midfielders and the entire left side lacks in technique and creativity. Cuadrado is just too brainless half the time, as if he’s playing with his friends in 5×5. He keeps the ball too much, he can’t make decisions quickly, he’s lacking in “football IQ” and he’s reaching the end of his career. He’s crucial now, but if Juventus fix their midfield and get modern full-backs, he won’t be missed.

  4. lol, that’s the 1 guy you shouldn’t be forcing to take a pay cut and he himself knows it. Plus you rehire a coach who doesn’t want/know how to integrate youth into a team. Juve mismanagement at its finest.

  5. That means Marotta will be taking him to Milano. If true very surprising as he meets PhD Max’s age quota and there is still plenty left in the tank. Maybe he is being asked to take a wage cut, as he went beyond the halfway line one too many times for Obi Wan Max’s liking. They are fine though, as Cafu (Man City Legend) has been renewed. He does exactly what Omicron Max commands. Never goes beyond the halfway line, cannot beat a man and hoof clears it anywhere. Bellanova looks likely to go to Inter, and I would be amazed if both Molina and Udogie moves to Turin. They are both under 25 and Udinese want money. Juve’s market strategy is anything over 34 and free. Pathetic to see a once great club reduced to beggars. Di Maria will drag on like Locatelli and they will not adequately replace Girgio, the wingbacks and the attack. Bet they will be doing mercato even when the season kicks off.

  6. they are targeting the wrong guy. cuadrado deserves his 5mil. the likes of rabiot and ramsey dont. juve should focus on those two.

  7. Imagine being upset getting 3M for playing football as a job at 34 years old – after getting 5m for multiple years.

Too much greed in football – disgusting.

  8. Gs, many fans still criticize Rabiot instead of Loca. The former is below expectation but still way better than the latter.
The management and scouting team should be sacked.

  9. @Dan

Greed in football is nothing new. But this is not a case of greed. They already signed a contract for a certain amount, so the management backing away from that despite his great performances is very low.
