Cristiano Ronaldo says Serie A ‘was dead’ when he joined Juventus: ‘Wherever Cristiano goes, he generates higher interest.’

Ronaldo spoke to reporters on Monday evening following Al-Nassr’s 5-0 loss against Celta Vigo in a friendly.

He said that he would not return to Europe in the future.

“I’m 100% sure I won’t return to any European club. I opened the way to Saudi league… and now all the players are coming here,” the Portuguese claimed, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“When I joined Juventus, Serie A was dead and then after I signed… it was revived. Wherever Cristiano goes, he generates higher interest.”

Ronaldo spent three seasons in Turin, scoring 101 goals in 134 appearances. He joined the Serie A giants from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth more than €100m. He left the Allianz Stadium in August 2021, returning to Manchester United.

Ronaldo added that he wouldn’t join an MLS club in the future given that the Saudi Pro League is ‘much better’ and that it will soon overtake the Turkish and Dutch leagues, given the quality of players that are being signed by Saudi clubs.

The 38-year-old is a five-time Ballon d’Or and Champions League winner. His contract with Al-Nassr expires in June 2025.

  1. Ah, to attempt staying relevant while playing in Saudi. Players are going to Saudi for money, Cristiano, not because you play there.

  2. Cristiano Ronaldo is a buffoon. Lots of talent bit zero personality. Unless buffoon and clown are disered characteristics
