La Gazzetta Dello Sport analyses Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus‘ struggles and journalist Alessandro de Calò asks: ‘Who ruined who?’

The Bianconeri board of directors resigned less than two weeks ago following a criminal investigation by the Turin Prosecutor.

Ronaldo, who spent three years in Turin from 2018 until 2021, left the Bianconeri last year with the Serie A giants still owing him €20m of previous wages.

The ex-Juventus forward was relegated to the bench in Portugal’s Round of 16 clash against Switzerland earlier this week and many suggest Qatar 2022 is certifying his decline.

“There’s a doubt that grows especially seeing what’s going on at the World Cup,” wrote Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist de Calò in today’s printed edition of the pink paper.

“It’s hard to understand if Ronaldo ruined Juventus or if it was Juventus to give the coup de grace to the career of the Portuguese superstar.

“We have to wait for the court’s verdicts and those of the pitch, which will be quicker.

“Ronaldo thought he’d play at the World Cup like a modern Dorian Gray. On the contrary, his Portugal side pushed him down from the pedestal.

“Juventus look quite ruined and the same is true of Ronaldo. They are even, for now, but the Bianconeri know how to rise again and Cristiano is a cat who can give one last blow with a paw.”

Ronaldo is expected to start on the bench against Morocco today. Juventus have appointed a new CEO and President, replacing Andrea Agnelli, and a new board of directors will take place on January 18, 2023.

Ronaldo joined Juventus for €110m in the summer of 2018 and scored 101 goals in 134 appearances with the Turin giants.

  1. I am sure if he could turn back the hands of time he would never have done this. Leaving 14 for 2, the biggest name in the game for a provincial side was never a smart choice.

  2. Another clue is the Wizard of Max. That should have been the first warning sign before inking the deal.

  3. Time and age is ruing Ronaldo.
Covid ruined any team heavily levered that relied on kite-ting money from TV, stadium and merchandising revenue .

  4. Ronaldo is a selfish player that puts himself before his team. Who goes on TV and bashes is employer that is paying you millions right before the World Cup? What a distraction. He should go to the MLS and become a side show.

  5. Undoubtedly he is great player, but not greater than the game itself.
Selfishness has ruined his historical mark on the beautiful game of football.
