Bryan Cristante believes VAR should’ve intervened on Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s penalty appeal after Roma lost 2-1 to Milan.
There were two contentious incidents in the game, one for each side, during the second half of a frenetic match.
The first saw Mkhitaryan go down in the box when wrestling with Theo Hernandez to get on the end of a Gianluigi Donnarumma rebound, but the referee gave a free kick against the Roma player and booked him for dissent.

Soon after, Rafael Leao sprinted into the penalty area when going down under a clumsy Rick Karsdorp challenge, but the referee waved play on.
“You can see that ours was a penalty. I think we have VAR, they used it to view the Milan spot-kick, so they ought to go and see the footage every time,” Cristante told Sky Sport Italia.
Marco Guida did go to the VAR on-field review screen to judge Federico Fazio’s stamp on Davide Calabria’s foot, which was right on the line.
The fact remains, Roma are now in fifth place, having been leapfrogged by Atalanta, because of their failure to beat any of the other contenders for the Champions League spots.
“We know we started badly, there are no excuses, we tried to get it back on track, but we must try to start games more wide awake and concentrated,” confessed Cristante.
“We know that we’ve had bad performances against the big clubs, for example Lazio and Atalanta. We had managed to get this one back on track, but then we made a mistake and Milan took advantage.”
