Domenico Criscito has left Toronto FC and according to Tuttosport, his return to Genoa is on the cards, especially if Il Grifone hire Aurelio Andreazzoli to replace Alexander Blessin.

The Italy international spent five months in Canada and announced his exit on Wednesday.

“Thank you for these six months, Toronto. You welcomed me like one of us and I will forever be grateful for that,” he wrote on Instagram.

“It was an amazing experience for my family and me, it’s time to come back home now, but you will always be in our hearts. As for my future, I will decide by the end of the year.”

As reported by Tuttosport newspaper, Criscito is now back in Genoa and a return to his former club is on the cards.

Genoa sit third in Serie B, but the future of their coach Blessin is under scrutiny and Aurelio Andreazzoli is one of the candidates for the job. As per Tuttosport, Criscito could return to Genoa if the German tactician is replaced by the ex-Empoli boss who is on good terms with the veteran defender.

Criscito refused to leave Genoa in the middle of 2021-22, hoping to help Il Grifone avoid relegation to Serie B. Having failed to accomplish his target, he is now tempted to return to Marassi and give his contribution to Serie A promotion.

  1. This is not a good move for him. Stay in MLS and finish out your contract (end of 2023). Play well and TFC likely give him another year. Hate this.
