It has been a turbulent summer for Criscito, who was set to feature for La Nazionale in the European Championships before his involvement in the betting scandal left him with a one-way-ticket back to St. Petersburg.

“I have not spoken with Cesare Prandelli since I left the training camp,” the 25-year-old told Sky Sport Italia. “But I hope to play again for my national team.”

The left-back, who transferred from Genoa to Zenit St. Petersburg in June 2011, has not yet been cleared nor convicted of anything and is keen to get past his current difficulties.

“I went to Italy to clarify my position, but they told me they did not have any new questions,” Criscito added, referring to his mid July appearance in front of the disciplinary commission in Rome.

The former Juventus” data-scaytid=”13″>Juventus defender has been in stunning form of late for Luciano Spalletti's Zenit, laying on three of the reigning Russian champions five goals in their recent destruction of Spartak Moscow.

He has accrued 19 Azzurri caps to date.
