Domenico Criscito has agreed on yet another return to his beloved Genoa following a brief spell in MLS with Toronto FC.

The defender turns 36 later this month and didn’t even last six months in Canada, where he still managed to play 16 competitive matches, scoring one goal.

Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia and Il Secolo XIX newspaper are confident Criscito has already signed the contract with Genoa, so we are just waiting for an announcement.

Although he was born in Naples, Criscito has always been tied to Genoa by a strong bond, starting his career in their youth academy in 2002.

He went on to feature for Juventus, Zenit St Petersburg and Toronto FC, but kept coming back to Marassi.

There was another spell here in 2006-07 on loan from Juventus, then again from January 2008 to the summer of 2011.

Criscito returned from Russia and Zenit St Petersburg to wear the Genoa jersey once more in 2018 and departed for Canada in July 2022 after being unable to prevent their relegation.

Now in Serie B, Criscito has reportedly been brought back largely because the club sacked coach Alexander Blessin, who had a frosty rapport with the captain.
