Criscito leaves Genoa and reunites with Insigne at Toronto FC

Lorenzo Insigne isn’t the only Serie A star heading to Toronto FC, as Domenico Criscito has also terminated his contract with Genoa and is moving to MLS.

The Canadian club has a long history with Italian talent, winning the title with Sebastian Giovinco leading the way.

They signed Insigne as a free agent after his contract with Napoli was allowed to run down and he will land in Toronto this evening, with the club setting a welcome party at the Café Diplomatico for fans.

He is not the only Italy international, because Criscito is also heading to Toronto FC after terminating his contract with Genoa by mutual consent.

The defender had been due to make the move in March, but turned it down because he wanted to do everything he could to help Genoa avoid relegation.

It was in vain, the Grifone dropped down to Serie B and he has now decided to start afresh in Canada.

“Dear Genoa, I never imagined or would’ve wanted to be here writing this final goodbye, but in life as we all know, things don’t always go the way you hope or want,” wrote Criscito.

“I will continue to follow and support you wherever I go, because there’s no getting away from it, your colours are indelible in my heart. I rejoiced, fought, suffered for you and always gave my all. I am sorry we couldn’t achieve our objective, but I hope you can soar in the months and years to come.

“This is not goodbye, but arrivederci, as I certainly won’t return as a player, but hopefully can come back and contribute to your success in other ways.”
