The former Italy international returned to the Stadio Marassi from Zenit in the summer of 2018.

“I’ve had physical problems, then there was COVID too and I start asking myself questions. I was wondering if it was better to continue of do something else. I thought about retiring,” he told Il Secolo XIX.

“Then I reacted and I see retirement more far away now. I do what I love for Genoa and I decided to go ahead. I am training well and I am in the right place.”

A COVID outbreak hit the team back in October with 22 people among players and staff members who tested positive, including Criscito.

“It was something complicated to deal with,” Criscito admitted.

“I woke up in the morning, but I was unable to do anything at all. My teammates and I used to text each other on Whatsapp every day and our group has become more compact.”
